Smoke-Free Ontario : Regulation Development
On June 13, 2005, Bill 164 was passed and received Royal Assent to amend the current Tobacco Control Act, 1994. This amended legislation will be called the Smoke-Free Ontario Act when the amendments come into effect on May 31, 2006. Highlights will include increased bans on smoking in enclosed public places and in enclosed workplaces, and restrictions on the promotion, handling and display of tobacco products in retail establishments. Individuals or associations that presented or provided written submissions to the Public Hearings on amendments to the Act have been invited to provide input to the development of regulations by forwarding written comments. This is an opportunity to help ensure that the regulations are clear and enforceable, while recognizing that policy directions as set out in the legislation have been determined.
