Ontario Health Quality Council
The Ontario Health Quality Council has released its first report on the status of Ontario’s health care system. The inaugural review focuses on areas including access to health care services, information management, innovation and research, as well as health services delivery integration. The report also discusses the current state of the health system and population health. The Ontario Health Quality Council is an independent body funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The mandate of the council is to monitor and report to Ontarians on access to publicly funded health services and related health human resources, consumer population health status and health system outcomes. The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care has shared the council’s report with the legislature and the public. The report is available online. The council will report annually to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. Council members will have an opportunity to contribute to an arm’s length agency responsible for reporting on the government’s progress in delivering results based on its health priorities. They will be contributing to a more accountable, integrated health system where results matter and are communicated to Ontarians. Membership on the council

Final appointments to the Ontario Health Quality Council are made by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. An arms'-length expert advisory panel made recommendations regarding potential candidates to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for his consideration. The Minister announced the launch of the Ontario Health Quality Council on September 12, 2005. Council members will receive per diem compensation for attending Council meetings and for undertaking other related work as well as travel and accommodation expenses as required. They will be expected to serve for two or three years, depending on term of appointment. |
