Investigation on Handling of Human Tissue at
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC)

Introduction

Ontario Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman asked Tom Closson, President & CEO of University Health Network to conduct an investigation of the incidents at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre which involved the mailing of human tissue to three First Nations women. The mandate of the review was also to include recommendations regarding the handling of human tissue in Ontario’s health facilities. As part of the review, Mr. Closson was to consider the views of First Nations communities as well as other communities.
