July 30, 2007 TORONTO – The McGuinty government has appointed Rob Devitt, CEO of Toronto East General Hospital, as supervisor for The Scarborough Hospital to help the hospital to continue to meet the health care needs of the local community, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today. “We are taking this step to assist The Scarborough Hospital in managing the governance and board composition issues it has been experiencing,” said Smitherman. “We’ve appointed Rob Devitt as supervisor to ensure the hospital is on the most stable footing possible, to the benefit of its patients and the whole community.” As Supervisor, Mr. Devitt will assume full responsibilities of the hospital board that governs the hospital, the hospital corporation and its officers. In this role he will work closely with senior hospital officials and the Central East Local Health Integration Network. Mr. Devitt will report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. Additionally, he will recommend and oversee the implementation of required changes to the governance of The Scarborough Hospital, including the functioning, composition and membership of the board, and will recommend and oversee solutions for administrative, management, operations and medical issues. “I want to thank the minister for this opportunity to be supervisor at The Scarborough Hospital,” said Devitt. “I am delighted to work with the hospital staff and community to address the issues that have been raised and to make sure the hospital continues to meet the needs of the community.” For further information : Members of the media :
