July 12, 2007 CARLETON PLACE – The McGuinty government is taking the first step towards the future redevelopment of the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital by providing a $750,000 grant to develop a proposal and business case, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today. “Our government is taking significant strides towards upgrading Ontario’s hospitals,” said Smitherman. “The funding announced today will assist the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital to take that crucial first step towards redeveloping its facility for the benefit of the local community.” The $750,000 investment will be used to help develop a long-term plan and the best approach for future redevelopment. The proposed redevelopment plan aims to enhance workplace health and safety, and to change the physical layout of the building to make it more accessible for patients. “We are pleased with the government’s support for developing a plan for an improved facility,” said Michel Gagné, CEO of Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital. “This funding will allow us to plan for meeting the future health care needs of our community.” This is just one more example of how, working together, Ontarians have achieved results in improving access to health care services in Eastern Ontario, other initiatives include :
